Utah Flash – Returning, Affiliate, and Tryout Players

The NBA.com/dleague site has posted a view at all the D-leaguers who be either returning to their team from last year, players who were released by the team’s NBA affiliate, or have been invited to participate in a tryout for the team. This group, combined with the team’s draft class, will make up the pool of players competing for up to 10 slots for D-league players while at least two slots will be filled by NBA players.

Here’s a deeper look at these players for the Utah Flash:

Evan Brock (Affiliate – Hawks)
F, 6-9, 220 from Alabama (2003-2006)

 

At Alabama, he played 106 games over the course of four seasons. His Alabama career average was 2.9 PPG from 2.2 attempts per game while earning 2.5 RPG and 0.7 APG.

Afterwards, his subsequent years playing overseas playing in South Korea (10.1 PPG from 62.4% and 6.3 RPG) and Venezuela (16.1 PPG and 6.9 RPG).

He also started to be known for his athletic ability, particularly when it comes to stuff like this…

Brock was invited to attend training camp for the Atlanta Hawks, but was waived on October 20th, after having scored only 2 points in 57 minutes during this year’s preseason.

Interesting side note: Brock’s father, Ernie, played for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Jordan Brady
F, 6-6, 210 from Utah Valley State (2007-2008)

 

Brady (Vernal, Utah) played two seasons at Utah Valley State, averaging 9.1 PPG, 6.8 RPG and 1.3 APG, earning First Team All-Independent honors and the NCAA D1 Defensive Player of the Year along the way.

Brady was selected in the 8th round of last year’s D-League draft by the Utah Flash and averaged 4.4 PPG from 56.7% and 3.7 RPG from playing 13.4 minutes a game. Brady’s best game last season came in a win against the Bakersfield Jam, where he scored 17 points from 6 of 8 shooting while earning 7 rebounds and an assist while only turning the ball over once.

Orien Greene
G, 6-4 from Lousiana – Lafayette (2004-2005)

 

In college, he played for Florida and later Louisiana-Lafayette, where he averaged 10.4 and 11.1 PPGs along with 4.6 RPG and 3.6 APG.

Greene has two years NBA experience, having been drafted by the Boston Celtics in the 2005 NBA draft.

Green played 80 games for the Boston Celtics in 2005-06 (3.2 PPG and 1.6 APG), 41 games for the Indiana Pacers in 2006-07 (1.5 PPG, 0.5 APG), and 7 games for the Sacramento Kings (0.9 PPG, 0.4 APG). He was waived from the Kings in November  2007.

After his NBA career, Greene played overseas for a team called Eclips Jet MyGuide Amsterdam before running into some trouble, preventing him from playing further.

He played with the Utah Flash last season, averaging just under 17 PPG and leading the D-league in steals at just under 3 a game.

Brian Hamilton
F, 6-6 from Louisana – Lafayette (2003-2005)

 

Hamilton played for two seasons at Louisiana – Lafayette, where he averaged 12.6 PPG and 2.2 APG. He lead the Sunbelt conference in total steals (58 in 2003-04 and 75 in 2004-05) and 2nd in steals per game (2.0 and 2.4) for both of those seasons. He also ranked 3rd in the Sunbelt in total rebounds (200 and 236).

In 2005-06, Hamilton played in 10 games for the Pennsylvania Valley Dogs of the USBL (15.7 PPG, .538 FG%). He’s also played overseas and was invited to the New Jersey Nets training camp two years in a row.

Hamilton joined the Utah Flash by way of an open tryout in the Flash’s inaugural season, eventually leading the D-League in steals (115) and steals per game (2.3). Along the way, he averaged 10.8 PPG, 5.6 RPG and 2.3 APG.

Andre Ingram
G, 6-3 from American (2004-2007)

 

At American, Ingram played a total of 118 games, averaging 14.0 PPG. He had a particular talent for the three point shot, averaging 5.8 3PA a game, connecting on an average of 2.2 of them (.385 shooting average from the three point line). He was a first-team All-Patriot League member as a sophomore and a senior. He lead his team in scoring all four years of his career and finished his collegiate career as American’s 5th all-time scoring leader (1,655 points).

He was drafted in the 7th round of the 2007 D-League draft, joining the team in its inaugural season. He has since played in all but two of the team’s 150 games, averaging 9.8 PPG, 1.6 APG and 3.0 RPG. More impressively, Ingram has a .436 3P% and a .463 FG%.

He took that three point percentage to the D-League All Star game and won the three point competition in Feb. 2009. Four months later, Ingram earned the Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award, an honor voted on by the 16 D-League head coaches.

Dontell Jefferson
G, 6-4 from Arkansas (2004-2006)

 

At Arkansas, Jefferson played 62 games while earning 3.6 PPG and 3.3 APG while playing 19.8 minutes per game. Even while playing limited minutes, he finished the 2005-06 season at the 5th leading assist man in the SEC (142 overall).

He was not selected in the 2006 NBA draft, and wound up landing with the Dakota Wizards. He averaged 15.6 PPG and 5.4 APG in two seasons with the Wizards before signing with the Flash before the 2008-09 season.

He’s averaged 17.9 PPG, 5.5 APG, 4.1 RPG and 1.6 SPG with the Flash, earning 3rd team all NBAD honors in the 2008-09 season. He also got a 10-day contract with the Charlotte Bobcats in March of 2009, which lead to a contract for him to join the team for the remainder of the season. He averaged 4.8 PPG in 1.5 APG in 6 games at 14 minutes per.

He was released from the Bobcats in October and looks to be a likely candidate to re-join the Flash this season.

Kevin Kruger
G, 6-2 from Arizona State (2003-2006) and UNLV (2007)

 

Kruger played three years with Arizona State, averaging 10.5 PPG and 3.1. APG while shooting .391% from the field. His best year was 2005-06, where he averaged 15.0 PPG and 3.5 APG while shooting .421% from the field.He was second in the Pac-10 in three point field goals (81), three point attempts (201), and true shooting percentage (.612%).

He then transferred to UNLV to play for Lon Kruger – his father – where his PPG dipped to 13.5, but his APG improved to 5.1. He lead the Mountain West in total assists (159), assists per game (5.1) and free throw percentage (.835%). He helped lead the Runnin’ Rebels to the sweet sixteen that year, losing to Oregon.

He was not drafted, but he got an invitation to the Orlando Magic training camp. He failed to make the regular season roster, but joined the Flash for the 2007-08 season. He played 49 games in the 2007 season, but only 21 and 19 games over the past two seasons. Regardless, he’s averaged 13.2 PPG and 5.9 APG for the Flash while shooting .453% from the field and .882% in free throw percentage.

Terry Martin (Tryout)
G, 6-6 from Louisiana State (2007-2009)

 

Martin played 86 games for Louisiana State while earning 7.6 PPG and 2.5 RPG. His  best game of his senior year was against Grambling State when he was 6-7 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from three-point range, scoring 16 points.

He’s father was selected by the Pacers in the second round of the 1985 NBA Draft, who also played for the Knicks and the Suns.

Ryan Thompson (Affiliate – Jazz)
G, 6-6 from Rider (2007 – 2010)

 

Thompson enjoyed a solid career at Rider, averaging 14.7 PPG, 3.1 APG and 5.7 RPG. He was a top ten guy in the MAAC in a variety of categories in each of his three seasons. He lead the MAAC in points in 2008-09 (576) and 2009-10 (566), free throws in 2009-10 (175) and effective field goal percentage in 2007-08 (.592%) and 2008-09 (.568%).

Thompson played for the Celtics Summer League team in Orlando and for the Kings Summer League team in Las Vegas before signing a non-guaranteed contract with the Utah Jazz on Sept. 22nd so that he could join the Jazz training camp. Thompson was cut from the regular season Jazz roster one month later, along with Sundiata Gaines, Othyus Jeffers and Demetris Nichols.
